Serre-Ponçon and high plateaus
A few kilometres south-east, Lake Serre-Ponçon, one of Europe’s largest artificial lakes, stretches its blue waters at the foot of the summits. Swimming, sailing, paddleboarding and lazing on the beaches of Savines-le-Lac make for a dream summer day for two. For a quieter date, Col Bayard opens onto the great Champsaur plateaus, ideal for a breezy walk.
Dévoluy and neighbouring peaks
The Dévoluy massif, to the west, impresses with its limestone cliffs and the Pic de Bure, topped by the IRAM observatory. Hiking in summer and skiing in winter: the Dévoluy changes face with the seasons and always offers a spectacular setting. To the north, the Champsaur Valley unfolds its picturesque villages, perfect for a tasty break.
Charance Mountain
Just above Gap, Charance Mountain and the grounds of the Alpine Botanical Conservatory offer a surprising viewpoint over the town and surrounding peaks, with a small lake lined with benches. On Lyad, people from Gap share their favourite trails; it is up to you to find someone to lace up and breathe some altitude air.
